Seoul – Dongdaemun Grilled Fish Street

The first time I tried Korean grilled fish was when I joined a group of students for their overseas learning journey back in 2017.

Again in 2018, I had grilled fish with another school group. Therefore, during my impromptu trip to Korea I was in search for grilled fish restaurant as the 2 places which I visited were too far from when I was.

Thanks to Google, I found out about Dongdaemun Grilled Fish Street. As I was reading the review I couldn’t help but drool over it! I was really looking forward to a delicious lunch!

Take the subway to Dongdaemun Station, look for exit 9 and exit out of the station. Walk straight, on your right you will see JW Marriott. You will then see Woori Bank. Turn left when you see IBK Bank.

Upon turning left continue walking straight, you will see rows of tentage selling street foods on your right. On your left is the textile the wholesale. According to Naver map I’m supposed turn at right at Vanilla Sky, but I didn’t see Vanilla Sky. Therefore, I just follow the smell of the grilled fish! The alley should look something like this. Its about 5 mins walk from the train station.

There were many restaurants selling grilled fish. As we were hungry, we just went in to the first shop. The grilled fish was amazing and they gave us some extra fish! It was grilled to perfection, it was lightly salted and you can taste the sweetness of the fish. The stir-fried squids was spicy and the meat was firm and crunchy.

While we were there, I realized that had many regular clients. The gentlemen would enjoy the grilled fish together with the soju. While the ladies will enjoy their meal over a exciting conversation. Overall, I really enjoyed my lunch. I highly recommend you to give grilled fish a try!
