During the 2nd Day of Chinese Lunar New Year, I was on a mission to hunt for Penang Assam Laksa. It is one of my top must have when visiting Penang. Unfortunately, the shops that I usually enjoyed Assam Laksa were not open during the holidays.
Since we were around the corner of New World Park Food Court – Sin Sei Kai (in Hokkien) we decided to take a look and see if any stalls were open and if there is Assam Laksa. I remembered many years back, I tried Assam Laksa at New World Park Food Court and unfortunately it was not to my liking.
Swatow Lane Ice Kacang used to have a stall at the New World Park Food Court. During the recent trip, I saw that they have their own shop at New World Park and so happen they also sell Assam Laksa! Oh boy I was excited, yet I was worried that I’ll be disappointed. This is one dish that I’m very particular about. If you have any recommendation, do let me know so that I can give it a try when I’m back to Penang.

Lo and behold, I was pleasantly surprise! The broth actually tasted sweet and sourish, they were generous with the fish meat and the chewy laksa noodles (only in Penang they have such noodles). It actually suited my palette Aww ~ I must say do enjoyed my Assam Laksa and was on cloud nine!!
I should also talk about their Ice Kacang since I’m at this shop. Hmm… to be really honest, Ice Kacang is not my usual go to desert. The shaved ice is smooth, pinkish-red syrup drenched on the ice is sweet. It serve as a good thirst quencher on a hot day! Do give it a try should you be around New World Park.
XOXO

Looks beautiful! Next time you are in Penang, please try yum-cha at Bali Hai near Gurney. There’s also a great night market and a seafood restaurant on the water. Go at high tide though! Not sure if they have extended the bay, they were doing it last time I was there.
