Penang – Moody Cow

During my last visit to Penang I was asking my aunt where can I buy good and delicious cake to celebrate my mother’s birthday. She recommended Moody Cow and shares that though it is expensive the money spent is worth it. ** This is subjective and not everyone will feel it is worth it given the price point. Did a quick Google search and was browsing through their wide selections of cheesecakes. Ooh I must say everything on the menu looks so good!

Extract from the internet ~ can’t remember which website I found this.

We went to check out Moody Cow after lunch, based on the cake display there were a number of interesting options. I was drooling and could not make up my mind what I what to buy. They have both the alcoholic and non alcoholic options.

The café ambience was lovely. I would love to sit there, chill and enjoy the cake along with a glass of hot coffee/tea. Didn’t pay much attention to the drinks menu as I was in a hurry.

After ding donging for a while I settle on Hawaiian Treasure and White Macadamia Chocolate. Each bite of this rich, creamy cheesecake is pure bliss. The cake layer is very moist and tender. It kind of balances out the tartness of the berries, Macadamia nuts were also generous. Both cakes slices are not overly sweet.

Price Point – Each slice of the cake ranges from Rm 30ish ~ 50ish. With this price point I would think most local would rather spend the money on proper food rather than on dessert (myself included after converting to SGD).

Portion – I must say comparing with other cafes/shops which sell cheesecakes, their slices are mostly tall and huge. 1 slice of cake can be shared among family/friends if one does not want to over indulge in this sinfully delicious goodness. Then again for a cheesecake lover nothing is over indulging.

The key question for myself would I see myself visiting Moody Cow for their cheesecake? For now I don’t think I would. Since I do bake myself the stinginess in me would rather spend hours in the kitchen baking my own cheesecake, giving myself a pat on the shoulder when the cheesecake turn out successful through my labor of love. And most importantly I have the entire cake all to myself! 😝

That said, I do appreciate good quality ingredients were used and the time spent in the kitchen crafting those yummylicious goodness. However, I just could not bare to pay for a slice of cake this much. If you don’t mind splurging on a slice of cake, I recommend you to give them a try. They have outlets in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru.

With that, here is one final look of the gorgeous Hawaiian Treasure.

XOXO
