Perak – Bagan Datuk (Sky Mirror)

I was intrigue over the hype for the sky mirror and needless to say, I jumped on the opportunity to take a trip to visit this place. We took a 3 days 2 night coach ride up to Perak which was about 7 – 8 hours journey from Johor Bahru. Thanks goodness we opted for a super VIP coach which made the journey more bearable. I split the post in 3 parts so it will not be too long of a post.

Day 1: Singapore – Bagan Datuk Fishing Village

We started the day super bright and early, as it was a public holiday we need to beat the traffic jam. Assembly time was 5.30am in the morning, traffic was smooth when we crossed Singapore border; however, there was a jam when crossing the Malaysia Border. We cleared immigration around 8.15am and finally we are on our way for breakfast at a local coffee shop – Heng Park Garden Cafe. The Tim Sum stall serves good Kaya pau (Coconut Jam) – only in Malaysia you can find the kaya yellow in colour.

Lunch was at S2 City Park Restaurant. Enjoyed their hot & sour soup along with their Thai style Fried Chicken. They also sells some snacks which some of the group members brought in on board the coach.

Thereafter, we continue on with our coach ride for another 5 hours or so before reaching Bagan Datuk Fishing Village. Things got super hectic the moment we reached our accommodation. The organizers were rushing us – We were given 10 mins to go to our rooms, drop our luggage and then hop on the buggy ride to the pier for dinner.

At the dining hall, brought back the nostalgic feeling as it was a huge school hall where everyone gathered together. Vegetables and instant noodles was served to us, while the other seafood (i.e. fish, squid /sotong, crab) we got to take it ourselves. Nothing fancy, the seafood steamboat dinner was so so. I only remembered the soup broth was nice and so was the fish balls.

To be honest I was more interested in capturing the sunset which was setting at the background. It was so mesmerizing to see the skies changes colour beautifully overtime.

After dinner it was chaotic, we were rushed to wear our life vest and board the speed boat to see the Blue Tears. But the skies was still blazing with the shade of purply, orangy skies, how can we see the blue tears if it was still bright and beautiful?

Our guides let the other tourists board their boat first, while we hang around to wait for the skies to get darker. As I understood from google – Blue Tears is a living organism that lives in the sea/ocean, it is a luminescent plankton which light up the sea/ocean, it will give a gentle blue glow and their life span is very short.

I believe it was a 10 mins boat ride before we reach the destination and the staff gave a brief introduction of the Blue Tears on board the boat. As they were talking I was looking around and all I see was darkness surrounding me nothing was illuminating. The staff then scoop their fishing net to sea and scoop up the specimens. The specimens emit blue florescent light when they are being rub against with our hand. Strictly no flash when taking photos/video otherwise it will die and not emit any light.

Chey ~ I was so disappointed, all the hype in the advisement. I was under the impression I get to see the sea somewhat light up with the gentle blue glow or maybe even at the beach shoreline where we get to see the Blue Tears as advertise. Lol, I was really not expecting them to scoop it out from the see to let us see via the net! I was thankful that we did not board the earlier boat, otherwise we might not even get to see anything.

10 mins boat ride later we are back to the pier. Supper was served – fried prawn fritters with hot drinks. Board the buggy and back to our accommodation. The room is simply furnished with 2 double beds and a toilet. Unfortunately, the rooms are not sound proofs and people who were speaking at the common corridors echo to the room. It really disturbs those who want to turn in early. There was no WiFi and the mobile data service does not work inside the room. Oh well, I was too exhausted and K.O to the murmuring of the conversation outside the corridors.

XOXO
