Jumbo seafood has been established in Singapore for many years. I heard about them but did not give them a try. They have a few outlets and we visited the one at Dempsey Hill for ambience and experience.
When I called for reservations, they were pretty much fully booked for their indoor seating and limited seating for outdoor. Decided to take the later dinner slot since the weather in Singapore was so hot and humid seating outside would be uncomfortable.
As we arrived at Dempsey Hill, we were greeted with restaurants after restaurants. In case you are wondering, Dempsey Hill was formerly known as the British Barracks builded in the 1800s. The buildings were conserved and mostly houses upscale restaurants/bars along with some furniture/arts galleries and dance studios.
For transportation, I think it best to take a private hire car (if not driving). If you are planning to take a public bus it can be rather inconvenient as you will need to walk to the restaurant from the main road. However, after dinner I had a hard time booking a private hire car. You either call a Taxi hotline (which take forever to pick up and I give up in the end) or pay for a higher fee (private hire) then someone is willing to drive up to Dempsey Hill to pick you up.
Ambience at Jumbo was cozy, however I feel it was a little too noisy for my liking. We sat against the wall of fish tanks, which houses a variety of fishes, crabs and lobsters. Pretty interesting to watch the fishes doing their things while having our dinner.
Price – I would say their rates it’s an upgraded version of the neighborhood “Zhi Char” and slightly higher than Crystal Jade restaurant. Taste wise, we love it! Every single dish that arrives tasted so good and the seafood is very fresh. We might have ordered slightly too much as everything on the menu looks so delicious! The only bummer was that the scallop wrap with yam ring was sold out. I badly wanted to try this dish, oh well better luck in my next visit.
At the end of our meal, we were so stuff yet we wanted to try their dessert! Yums 😋 ~ We were sastified, in food comma and zoning out while on our way home. It was a lovely dinner and we really enjoyed ourselves. Maybe during our next visit we will try the outlet at Orchard. Tata till then ~
XOXO
