This was such a wonderful experience which I never thought that I get to experience it personally. Learning to shuck oysters, wearing waterproof waders and wader out to the water was something I could only watch on TV and wonder when I can experience such activities.
Coffin Bay is situated at the southern part of the Eyre Peninsula and it is around 46km away from Port Lincoln. Coffin Bay is a town which is popular for their water sports, oyster farming as well as fishing activities.
We booked to understand more about oyster farm and tasting tour (Aud 50 per pax) and opt for the ultimate seafood platter (Aud 65 per pax). We were required to arrive early so we have time to change to the waders.

Being a ‘shorty’ the waders was kind of long to me. It ends up bunching right below my knee and the top half which should sit comfortably at the chest but it did not cause by the weight of both the mobile and camera. Which I think I look somewhat ridiculous.
Depending on the season of your visit, it would be recommended to wear an outer jacket as it could get slightly cold due to the windy condition.
Before the start of the tour, our guide gave us a brief history lesson on Flinders the explore and how it got its name. Then it was time to waders to the water. At time it was not easy to balanced, the seabed was kind of rocky and walking against the current of the water. While enroute to the floating shack we saw a jellyfish!

As we settle down, more lessons on oyster farming and the different methods and cage used to farm these delicate oysters. To be honest I did not know oyster can grow so huge, until we were show a side by side comparison. Unfortunately, I lost that photo.

Demonstration of how to shuck the oyster was shown, it does take a bit of skill and patience to shuck the oyster. Once master it is relatively easy to pried open the shell. In real honesty, I am not a huge fan of oyster. Somehow the oyster served tasted slightly saltish. Pair it with a generous amount of lemon juice and Tabasco makes the whole experience much better.

Ooh the seafood platter was just so amazing! The portion size is huge and all of us was just so stuffed and had to wave the white flag to call quits and literally we are encouraging each other to finish up and not waste food!

What a memorable experience for all of us and kudos to the guides who are knowledgeable sharing interesting insight with us. Otherwise, we might take a while to google to understand more.
Have you tried shucking the oyster before? Love to hear your experience.
XOXO
