OMG ~~ This is my first time trying the food at Tong Sheng. I must say this was the key highlight to my trip to Malacca. Crab was the main reason why I was willing to travel to Malacca during Chinese New year. I heard good things about it and I was eager to try it.
The last time I had crab in Malacca was a small coffee shop beside Ramada Hotel. Can not remember the coffee shop name but all I remembered it was jam packed and the waiting time to get seats was more than an hour.

As usual all good food must wait, so it was important that you make reservations prior to visiting otherwise you will have to join the queue. We arrive earlier then our schedule reservation. Given that our group is kind of big we were assigned to 2 separate tables.
A mini discussion was on it ways like how many crabs to order and it was agreed that everyone should have at least 1 huge craw + body and legs. For crab lovers I guess it does not really doesn’t matter how many crabs were ordered as there will be a way to polish it off!
To be honest I do not remember the name of most dishes as my focus was on the crabs!! While waiting for our foods to be served, we were arranged to move up to the second floor where the restaurant had a huge table for 15 pax! Oh my, I thought most restaurants would have tables for 10 – 12 paxs but 15 paxs? The table was huge and everyone had enough space and it was not cramp.
By now I am rather curious to see how the restaurant serves us. Would it be 2 plates of everything or was there even a hugh plate that could cater everything?
First of was the fruits – salmon Yu Sheng. I was blown away, truly there was a HUGE plate for 15 paxs worth of Yu Sheng!!! At the end of enjoying the Yu Sheng, we place our chopsticks around the plate to show huge it was! I am not a fan of Yu Sheng, since this was fruits salad I must say not too bad.

Next up cheesy prawn meehoon. It was not prawn but actually lobster! It tasted not too bad at first, personally it kind of feel meh after I finished up my portion. Something seems to be missing from this dish which I can not point it out. I probably would not have this dish during my next visit.

The next few dishes were rather average, to be honest I wasn’t particularly blown over. Maybe I was anticipating the crabs!

Finally, the star dish was served! Omg, fresh milk crabs this cooking style is unheard of in Singapore or maybe even in Johor Bahru. The usual style are chili, black pepper and salted egg. This fresh milk style has a combination of sweet, saltly and slightly spicyness to it. Each crab weight at lease 1kg, the craw is huge and the crab meat is so firm and sweet.

Out of the group about 6 of us are such huge fans of crabs and you hear nothing from us as we were all concentrating on eating our crabs! We also get to clear the remaining crabs which the others do not want.
One positive thing is that Tong Sheng is very close to the hotel that we were staying. Hence, after a sastifying dinner we took a slow walk back.
This whole crab situation was such a mouthwatering and unforgettable experience. As I look at the photos while writing this, I wish I am transported back to Tong Sheng to experience the deliciousness of the fresh milk crab once again.
For the price paid, it was definitely worth travelling to Malacca to enjoy the crab. If you love crabs and visiting Malacca, perhaps you would want to visit Tong Sheng and give it a try. Who knows you may love the fresh milk crabs!
XOXO

Malacca – Restoran Aunty’s Lee
I have eaten Nonya cuisine a numerous times while visiting Malacca and did not enjoy the food much. It could be due to the restaurant that I had visited previously. Hence, during a recent visit to Malacca, we were recommended to try Aunty’s Lee Nonya cuisine, which had stayed true to the authentic way of preparing the dishes. Aunty’s Lee is located on the outskirt part of Malacca tourist attraction (i.e.…
Singapore – TungLok Signature
** I visited TungLok Signature just when Singapore relax its “Phase 3 (Heightened Alert)” which allows dinning at restaurants for up to 5 paxs from 12 Jul onwards. However, due to the increased of community cases, it was later announced on 19 Jul that from 19 Jul – 8 Aug dinning at restaurants will revert back to 2 paxs. Again on 20 Jul another announcement was made to supersede the measures…
Singapore – Crab Farm
Do you love crabs and you are looking to purchase the freshest possible crabs? We chance upon Crab Farm (or rather a wholesale distributor to other seafood restaurants in Singapore) at Lim Chu Kang many years back when we visited Sungei Buloh wetland reserve. Since then we have not went back as it was kind of inconvenient to get there. To get to the crab farm you will need your own…
