Singapore – Springfield Nature Park

Following Lower Seletar Reservoir, we make our way to Springfield Nature Park. If you are taking a public bus you can take any bus from Khatib MRT station and alight at the 3rd bus stop.

Follow the cover walkways and it will lead you to Springfield Park Connector. In the past when there wasn’t a connector residents at the private estate will have to take a different route to reach home. With the connector it used to be dimly lighted and it difficult for residents to make their way back home. With feedback/suggestions to the MPs (Members of Parliament) further improvements was made.

Walking along Springfield Park Connector one can hear the birds sing, monitor lizard swimming and if you are lucky you also get to see otters swimming and eating in the canal! The previous trip I saw 2 Eagles, I remembered asking the photographer the species but I forgot 😅. Maybe you can shared with me.

Springfield Nature Park was open to the public in 2014. It is about 6 hectares and it used to be part of a Kampong (Village in Malay) called Chan Chu Kang , named after the headman Chan Ah Lak. The land which he acquired was used to cultivate gambier and pepper. Do you know that gambier was used as a tanning agent, brown dye, food additive and herbal medicine? Both gambier and pepper plants were usually planted together as the fallen leaves of the gambier plant will provide nutrients and help protect the roots of the pepper plants. Now you know a little history of Springfield park! I also have no idea till I Google to read about the history and to see how a gambier plant look like and how it’s used. 🤓

There is a washroom and water cooler. So do remember to visit and hydrate yourself before heading to Upper Peirce Reservoir. Till then see you at Upper Peirce!

XOXO
