I tired Korean cold noodles (Naengmyeon) when I was in Korea and the experience was a okay experience. Since I have not tried it here in Singapore I was excited to give it a try.
If you are craving for Korean food in Singapore, Tanjong Pagar is one of the top choices to visit as there are many eateries selling premium Korean BBQ and are usually open by Koreans living in Singapore themselves. Be warned if you are planning to head over to Tanjong Pagar for some Korean food, be prepared to pay slightly higher prices as compared to other Korean restaurants in Singapore.
I was meeting with a friend who loves Korean food just as much as I do suggested that we meet at Tanjong Pagar for some Korean food. Since she recently just had Korean BBQ, we decided to have cold noodles (Naengmyeon). She has been there before and enjoyed the noodles.
Naengmyeon is a type of handmade noodles made from flour starch of other ingredients such as buckwheat, potatoes/sweet potatoes. The noodles can be served with cold or hot broth depends on what was available in the restaurant. When our noodles arrives, we did not eat our noodles immediately. Hence, our noodles was kind of dry. The owner (I believe) notice that our noodles was dry and add some more broth to our bowl so it was easier for us to enjoyed our noodles. That was very nice of him. 😊 The texture of the noodles was very chewy and it goes really well with the pickle radish and the crunchy pear. I believe I ordered the spicy version and it was not spicy at all. I also find the broth of the cold noodles to be slightly bland.

We ordered Kimchi pancake + Kimchi dumpling to pair it with our noodles. Bad move, it was way too much for us to finish it in one go, thankfully we were able to do a takeaway for our leftover.
As we were trying out the kimchi pancake and dumpling we gave each other a look to see if we both agree what we were thinking in our head. Our verdict… We both prefer the kimchi I make. Mine version of kimchi was the classic Tongbaechu – kimchi which was spicy and slightly sourish. There are many different types of kimchi and somehow the kimchi which was in the pancake and dumplings has something lacking in it which we could not point our finger too. It taste not bad but it not something we would rave about and keep going back for more kimchi pancake or dumpling (subjective to each personal preference) – no hate at all.

Hands down to the beef broth that was severed to us. Personally, I feel the broth was the main highlight of our dinner. It was savory, flavourful and it instantly warm our belly while we were waiting for our food. Should had requested for a refill of that delicious broth. It was simply delicious!

Price point, I have not tried Naengmyeon at other restaurant I would not be able to comment. But for the price of the Kimchi pancake + Kimchi dumpling I feel it’s on the higher side. It could be due to the location the restaurant.
Would I visit them again? In all honesty not at the moment. Simply because I do not want to travel all the way downtown just to have Korean food. Unless I am planning to catch up with friends in the near future then I might make the trip down and try their other items.
If you are looking to try Naengmyeon (cold noodles) do give Noodles Star a try. I have seen many positive google reviews, maybe your experience would be much better than mine and perhaps you will enjoy the food better than I do. No hate to Noodles Star, it just not my vibe nor does it suite my palate when I visited them.
XOXO
