** I visited Sushi Airways before Singapore tighten it’s covid19 measure announced on 14 May. “Phase 2 (Heightened Alert)” takes effect from 16 May – 13 Jun where dining in at restaurants are not allowed.**
To celebrate both Mother’s Day and my Dad’s Birthday, I was thinking what would be nice to eat. Can’t go western, dad is not a fan.. Can’t go Chinese, cos I don’t wanna have Chinese since I am always having Chinese food at home. We decided to go for Japanese cuisine, something we all unanimously agree! LOL 🤣
As I was googling, Sushi airways pops out and I was reading the review and I was excited to go give it a try. They got a number of items which looks Instagram worthy! But most importantly, the review that I have read so far give rave review of the food.
Tried making the reservation online but there was no option for me to select 3 Pax. So I gave them a call and voila I was able to make my reservation. It’s hassle free and a deposit of SGD 50 (via paynow) was required to secure our reservation. For some reason, if we need to change or cancel our booking, we can just give them a call to inform them 24 hours prior and our deposit will be refund back to us.
The concept of Sushi Airways is an airplane theme restaurant, the only one in Singapore. They have been around since end 2012 (I think from the blog / reviews I read so far) which I have no idea until recently when I google for Japanese food. Their seafood was freshly flown over to Singapore from Japan. In the past it was 4 times a week, but given the current pandemic situation I am not sure what the frequency like for their seafood delivery.
Sushi Airway was where we embark on a flight to a Japanese culinary experience. From the entrance and taking each step up to the dining area is like we are walking toward the cabin and looking for our seats!

Sushi Airways was open from 5.45pm for dinner and we arrived 10 minutes earlier then our reservation time. When we arrived at Sushi Airways, we were the only guests and since the restaurant is small and cosy, I kind of hesitate to take photos.. I got slightly self-conscious, lol 🤭

Since it was our first time visiting the restaurant, one of the staff kindly explain to us their standard menu and their seasonal menu. There is a wide variety of selection to choose from. I actually downloaded their menu beforehand to see what is available and ahem the price (don’t wanna be shocked at the end of the meal! 🤪) In any case, I was willing to splurge for good and delicious food since we are celebrating both Mother’s day and Dad’s birthday.
We decided to order Sashimi Moriawase (6 types of seasonal or shell fish). There were two types of salmon (salmon + salmon belly), scallop, two types of tuna (I think – though I love tuna but I don’t know how to identify them 🤦♀️), a type of fish (no idea what it was but it was crunchy and sweet!) top with salmon roes. OMG… it’s very expensive to me personally I usually don’t spend this amount on Sashimi, perhaps for others the price point is normal. BUT I must emphasise that the sashimi it’s SO DARN GOOD! It was very fresh, the scallop melts in the mouth, there was no funky smell/taste and it was worth paying for it!

We ordered Tekka Maki (Bluefin Tuna), Double Shake Roll, Tsukune (Grilled Chicken Ball), Flying Soba and Soft Shell Crab Maki.
Tekka maki (Bluefin Tuna) was lovely, I enjoyed how the tuna was fatty, silky smooth and will need to chew slightly. Double Shake Roll is one of Sushi airways signature maki rolls and highly rave by others who visited before. It was a combination of raw salmon with deep fried salmon skin. Each bite gives a delicious crunch and you will want to have more of it! Yes, I also recommend you to try this!

Tsukune (Grilled Chicken Ball) is different from what I am used to eat from Tori-Q. The texture is like a smooth minced chicken meat with fats which make it juicy and bouncy! So delicious and I was tempted to order another skewer (4 pieces/skewer). Dad ordered Soft Shell Crab Maki, upon our order, the chef fried the crab and served it in the maki roll. The crab was crunchy and it was not over fried and oily. Yum!

Lastly, we ordered Flying Soba. At this point our belly were almost bursting but I was curious about this flying soba item as to why it was a seasonal item. To be honest, I was never a fan of soba noodles let alone green tea soba. So before I ordered, I ask my parents if they still have space to try this soba. I am ordering for the sake of taking photo and they have to finish it. 😅 According to them, taste wise nothing special (which I also agreed), visually it capture our attention. The serving of the salmon sashimi was generous as it was thickly sliced. We were not too sure what to do with the raw quail egg (sitting so cutely in a “nest”) until we were told to mix it with the soba noodles sauce. Our verdict, we preferred the sauce without the quail egg.

To end of our hearty dinner, we were served with complimentary mochi (Japanese rice cake). It was a beautiful dessert, it tasted yummy but somehow the texture was not those super soft and fluffy type perhaps due to the design of the mochi.

It was really a pleasant experience dining at Sushi Airways. Yes, the price is on a higher side but the quality of the meal was exceptional. It was worth visiting them and paying for it (No regrets!) Perhaps next time when we visit them again, we can skip the Sashimi since it was the priciest one from what we have ordered that day. 🤭
If you have tried Sushi Airways before, do share with me your favourite item/s. Till then stay safe everyone. 😊
XOXO
