Singapore – Yayoi

I have not hear of Yayoi previously and was curious to see what they sells. When they open their new outlet at the neighbourhood of Yishun, Northpoint City during pre – covid time, I have seen many people at their restaurant.

Did a quick google and understand that Yayoi is a restaurant that serves Teishoku – Japanese set meal where all dishes are served together as a set. As of current, they have 10 outlets in Singapore.

  • 100Am (Tras St)
  • Bugis +
  • Eastpoint
  • Millenia Walk
  • Northpoint City
  • Somerset 313
  • The Star Vista
  • United Square
  • Victory Centre
  • Waterway Point

A while back we decided to give it a try as the restaurant was not crowded. After every customers who left the restaurant, the staffs will give the tables and chairs a good wipe down before the next customers were led to the clean space.

There is a wide variety of selections and we could not decide what we wanted. We went back and forth and finally decided on Tori Katsu Teishoku & Mix Toji Teishoku.

I note that other patrons were quick with their decision, I guess they are regulars who know what they want.

Tori Katsu Teishoku & Mix Toji Teishoku

After we have placed our order, we don’t have to wait very long for our meal to arrives. For an additional S$1 you can upgrade your rice from regular white rice to 16-grain rice. You can also ask for free refills of rice, miso soup and side dish. Seems like a pretty good deal as it is not a common practice where you are not charge for extra rice, soup and side dish in a restaurant.

Tori Katsu Teishoku (Pork cutlet simmer in miso sauce)

The food is delicious but it is slightly salty for us. We would have preferred to have lesser sauce or no sauce at all so that the fried prawn / pork cutlet will not lose its crispness and crunch in the sauce. For me the Ika Karaage (Fried Squid) is tender and crunchy; however, it did not really stand out that much for me. The portion is decent and the price point can be pricier depending on what you order.

Mix Toji Teishoku ( Pork cutlet + ebi fry + sliced beef + scrambled egg)
Ika Karaage (Fried Squid)

Overall, the dining experience is pleasant and I would visit them again in the near future to try their other items.

XOXO
