Do you love crabs and you are looking to purchase the freshest possible crabs? We chance upon Crab Farm (or rather a wholesale distributor to other seafood restaurants in Singapore) at Lim Chu Kang many years back when we visited Sungei Buloh wetland reserve. Since then we have not went back as it was kind of inconvenient to get there.
To get to the crab farm you will need your own transport or hire a private hire transport else you will have a hard time getting to the farm as there is no public transport. With the help of trusty google map, we are able to make our way to the farm after visiting the wetland reserve (Singapore – Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve).
There is ample parking space and it is also depended what time you arrive. Usually people are quick to purchase the crabs and move off.
Safe entry is required when you are at the farm so please remember to check in! While we were there, they have a small selection of flower crabs, mud crabs, la la, lobster and mantis prawns.
What I liked about buying from them, the price is definitely more competitive very fresh and best of all the crabs are clean. Their crabs are kept alive in oxygen enclosed shallow water pool. Not much hard core scrubbing/cleaning is require when preparing the crabs.
You can also request them to help you prepare the crabs if you intend to cooked immediately once reaching home or do not know how to. They will place the crabs in a bag of ice to keep it fresh. Once you are home you can either do a quick rinse or just cooked it straight off.
We opted to prepare the crab ourselves and choose to purchase female crabs for the roe. Previously the payment mode was cash. Given the evolution of technology you can choose to paynow and share the screenshot with the staff!
Our preferred way of preparing the crabs is just “BBQing” it over our happycall pan over medium low fire for about 15 – 20mins or until the shell turns red. The crabs are very meaty, firm and sweet. No seasoning is required and all we had was tabasco sauce for dipping. As there were left over. We deshell it and keep in the fridge.
For a quick lunch fix the next day I added some mayonnaise, corn and edamame to make myself a sandwich. The crab meat is just as fresh and juicy when it was freshly cook the previous day. So yummy!
XOXO
