For all durian lovers out there, have you tried The Durian Times? This… have being a wonderful journey… As mention in their Instagram – “Our durians will make you happy :)” I must say they truly lift up to the tag line and it definitely do not disappoint.
I have always love durians and we used to go Johor Bahru and we will buy a box full of this creamy fruit. Else if we are back in Penang we will drive up Penang Hill looking for durians stalls.
Durians are consider the king of fruits in southeast Asia and has an acquired taste and a distinct smell. To some the smell of durian may put you off while to some it’s so fragrant! There are many varieties of durians such as D24, Red Prawn, XO, 猫山王 (Mao Shan Wang), and the list go on and on.. I enjoyed durains which are either sweet or bitter taste. Either you love it or you hate durians!
I enjoyed eating just the fruit alone either cold or room temperature. Once the fruit is open it’s best to consume it immediately or put store it in a container and put it in the fridge. During childhood, I was taught to eat cold durian with hot rice (YUM!!) It may sound nasty/unappetizing to some, but that was how my family/relatives enjoyed our durians. And if you decided to give it a try.. beware hot rice + cold durians = dangerous combination which could leads to higher calories counts and gain weight faster! Well it happens to me, so don’t say I did not warn you. Lol! 🤭
However, these past years we have been cutting down on durians as we were not able to find a shop that sells good affordable durians which truly satisfy the craving or the oomph of the durian is lacking.
We have passed by The Durian Times numerous times and always see people buying boxes of durian but we hesitate to try as we were not sure if we will be disappointed. So one day we decided to give it a try (I know we are slow in getting on to this bandwagon) and I must say the rest is history. No more buying durians from dishonest sellers which ends up disappointing and expensive. Yeah!
We tried 猫山王 (Mao Shan Wang [MSW] or direct translation: Cat Mountain King 🤣). The oomph, the texture of the durian pulp is thick, creamy and sweet with a slight bitter aftertaste. OMG, every single bite contains pure joy and satisfaction and it takes a lot of self control to not overeat! 🤤😋 Happy to say we have not look back since and kept going back for more!
So please go check them out before the durian season end, I PROMISE you will truly love it. Do Share with me if you love durian and where do you normally go to satisfy your durian cravings!
XOXO
