My last trip for 2019, I visited Adelaide. And I have never visited Australia during summer as I knew their summer is kind of brutal. The week that I was there was the heatwave period! The temperature soar to as high as 46° (depending on where you are) and I have never experienced such intense heat before. The weather was so hot, I simply didn’t want to do any thing. But then again if I am going to spend my time at home and not do anything then I simply wasting my time. Hence, some skeleton plans were made and will arrange according to the days weather.
While I was in Adelaide, bush fires were reported across Australia. My heart goes out to those who lose their properties, lives and the millions of Australian wildlife which perished in the fire. It was really heart breaking to hear the constant news of new potential spots for fire.
Day 2 of my trip, I visited Beerenberg Family Farm which was just nearby German Town – Hahndorf. I had visited Hahndorf a few times during my past visits and I did not know that there was a strawberry farm nearby.
Since I had never experience what it’s like to pick strawberries, we decide to give it a go. You will need to pay an entrance fee of AUD 4 per adult, children below 12 is free. You get to pick as much strawberries as you want (Please be responsible, pick what is enough for yourself!) and they will charge you AUD 10.95/KG.

On this very day, it was one of the hottest temperature I had ever experience. It was so hot that I only manage to capture this short video before my phone gave numerous warning that the phone was overheating and I need to switch off my camera (It has never happen to my phone before!!)
I could not contain my excitement when I see all the red, juicy and fresh looking strawberries! Instead of picking the strawberries, I was busy taking photos with my digital camera under the hot burning sun!

After I am done with my photos taking, I began picking my strawberries. As there were many rows of the strawberry patches, I walked towards the rows which were further away from the entrance. I figured less people would had walk over there and chances of me picking huge, red and juicy strawberries was very high!
And it paid off! This was what I have picked up. Strawberries back home were either sour or it was not sweet and juicy. The one which was picked at Beerenberg Family Farm was very sweet and juicy! (If you have the chance, do also try Korean strawberries. When it is in season, the strawberries are very sweet and juicy. Yum!)

It was definitely cheaper to pick your own strawberries from the farm as compare to those pre-pack strawberries you get from the supermarket or from the farm.

As usual, if I see ice cream I will definitely want to give it a try! And it was really yummy! They used frozen strawberries and vanilla ice cream and mixed it through the swirl ice cream machine. What a yummy treat to enjoy in the extreme hot weather.

As we did not head back home immediately after visiting the farm, the colour of the strawberries changed as we kept it at the back of the car booth. So we went to buy a tub of vanilla ice cream to make our very own strawberries smoothie. It was just so sinfully delicious!

Overall, I really enjoyed picking strawberries. I think it was really a good experience for both young and old. If you get the chance to do it, please go and experience it.
XOXO
