Penang – Seafood Porridge

Recently, my uncle brought me to this coffee shop along Gurney Drive to try the fish soup. Usually when I’m in Penang, fish soup is not something I will crave for as I do get a little picky with the type fish serve and the taste of the broth. Therefore, the idea of having fish soup does not sound too appealing to me as I preferred to enjoy other type of dishes. To be honest, I was really not looking forward to it.

We visited Seafood Porridge in the morning for brunch and it is located at Public Cafe, which is just beside Song River Cafe.

Tried their fish head soup with rice noodles and oh my goodness… It actually taste so good! The broth is clear and I’m able to taste the sweetness of the fish. There are many different types of fish for you to select. You can either choose to have fish head or slice fish fillets.

Usually for fish head soup, mostly you only get eat the head and if you are lucky you get to eat some of the fish meat. However, at Seafood Porridge, they are pretty generous. I’m able to enjoy the fish meat together with the fish head which was a bonus as I don’t really know how to appreciate fish head.

We also tried this fish (sorry I don’t remember the name of the fish), I don’t think it is sold in Singapore. The fish was lightly salted and deep fried. Oh my, the fish meat is crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. It was so mouth-watering! Having one whole fish to myself is simply not enough. I went back the next day to have this fish but it was sold out during lunch hour! As I kept thinking of this delicious fried fish I return the following day to enjoy this goodness.

PS: I understand from the lady boss that this fish is not sold daily and if they do managed to order this fish it will be sold out by lunch hour. Do give it a try should you be in Penang and craving for good fish soup with noodles/rice!

XOXO
