When I crave for Koay Teow Th’ng, Cecil Market will be one of my go to place. This market sell a wide varieties of items such as Penang local delights, its also a wet market and sell kitchen wares, clothes and fruits.
The locals call this the Chit Tiau Lor Bansan – also known as the Seventh Street Market in Hokkien. This market has slowly gain it popularity with visitors from overseas over the years.
When I’m at this market these are my go to choices (in no particular order)
1) Duck Meat Koay Teow Th’ng – My kind of broth with silky smooth koay teow, duck meat and sai toh (also known as Wolf Herring Fish / Ikan Parang / 西刀鱼) fishball.

2) Pasembur – It is a type of Salad sold in Penang. In fact, there are 3 different types of Pasembur. They have the Indian, Malay and Chinese Style. The one sold at this Market is the Chinese Style. In Hokkien it is known as cheh-hoo.
3) Fried Tau Kwa (Beancurd) – Soft and tender Tau Kwa

4) Roasted Pork – Crispy crunchy skin on the top layer and juicy tender meat. There are three stalls selling the same item. Usually we will just go the the stall with the shorter queue.

5) Crispy Pancake – There are assorted flavours and I prefer the one with Sweet Corn – also known as Jagung. It is a crispy pancake on the outside. The inside filling has sweet corn & crushed peanuts. It has to be eaten when its hot otherwise it won’t be as tasty.

XOXO
