Switzerland – Monte Bre

While I was doing my research on where I should visit on boxing day – 26 Dec where most attraction were either closed due to Christmas holiday or winter season. I was quite keen to visit Swissminiatur or Monte San Salvatore. Sadly, both of these place was closed.

The only place which was open on boxing day was Monte Bre. The challenge was to made our way there. I did some research on how to make our way there and reconfirm again the direction to Monte Bre. Alas, when I board the bus and check the google map, I got confused, missed the stop and end up at the bus final stop.

Thankfully, google map was able to redirect us to the funicular station where it was will bring us up to Monte Bre.

When we arrive we were in time to catch the tram up. Should we miss the funicular, we will have to wait for half hour. In my haste to purchase the tickets from the train master I forgot to ask if there was a discount for Swiss Pass holder!

Apparently, after a few days it dawn on me that there were some discount given! If you have a Swiss Pass do remember to check if there are any discount for any attractions you visit.

The ride up was around 15 minutes (I think!) and it was a lovely ride. The altitude of Monte Bre is not very high its about 900m. It was a beautiful weather during our time of visit.

The view was mind blowing! Never would I imagine the view which unfold right before my eyes. Although, we didn’t spend much time at Mount Bre, probably around 30 – 40 mins we truly enjoyed ourselves.

Also I believe if you visit during non festive holiday the restaurant (Yellow building) will be open when you can enjoy the view while having a meal / drink.  I highly recommend you to visit Monte Bre while at Lugano, its definitely worth the money spend on the funicular.

Direction: (do re-confirm the direction with your hotel reception). This was the direction I took.

– Take Bus 2 (towards Castagnola) from Lugano Train Station
– Alight at the bus last stop (Castagnola Capolinea)
– Transfer to Bus 10 (toward Albonago) –  its a small mini bus. It will stop right in front of the funicular station.
– The funicular runs every 30mins, purchase the ticket from the counter.

XOXO
